My husband and I just returned from Maine – our standard Fourth of July vacation. While there we ate a lot of blueberries- in salads, muffins and my favorite – blueberry French toast.
Here are some things you probably didn’t know about blueberries.
- Blueberries protect against memory loss by clearing the brain of toxic proteins.
- Maine produces more blueberries than anywhere else in the world.
- They can be used as a natural food dye.
- The perfect blueberry should be “dusty” in color.
- Don’t rinse until you are ready to eat.
- The blueberry bush is a relative of the rhododendron.
- Most blueberry-flavored processed foods contain no real blueberries.
The best are wild blueberries – but ANY blueberry is better than no blueberry. Enjoy!
