The Upper Falls and bridge in Hocking Hills State Park, Ohio
Hocking Hills is characterized by massive sandstone outcroppings, deep cool gorges, towering hemlocks and glistening waterfalls.
Abundant wildlife including white-tailed deer, barred owls, ruffed grouse and an occasional bobcat make the wooded ravines and ridgetops their home. In spring, the early morning hours come alive with the gobble of the wild turkey. A wide variety of lichens and mosses cling to the rock faces. (Source: HockingHills.com)
You can take river trips, rent ATVs, get nature therapy walks, go on canoe trips, train rides or plane rides. You can find more info at the official Hocking Hills website.
Yellow Springs, Ohio
Yellow Springs, Ohio is a “hippie” town full of great restaurants, ice cream and candy shops, and beautiful parks full of waterfalls and more. According to a blog post at the travel blog “A Dangerous Business“,
“Yellow Springs has always been a bit artsy, and more than a bit open-minded. The town was one of the final stops on the Underground Railroad, and has a long history of racial tolerance. And, in 1979, Yellow Springs was the smallest municipality in the U.S. to pass legislation banning discrimination based on sexual orientation.”
Yellow Springs is also known for its lush forests full of waterfalls and great trails.
