In the Dispatch on Thursday, there was an article on Worker’s Comp moving away from opioids and recommending chiropractic care.
FINALLY!!!!! This is GOOD news!
47 states have done worker’s compensation studies showing that injured workers who seek chiropractic care get back to work more quickly, have less re-injury, higher patient satisfaction and lower costs.
Every day three people in the worker’s comp system in Ohio die due to reactions to pain medications.
This has officially reached insanity.
Last year the chairperson of Drug Safe Worthington asked me to chair a committee. My involvement in this group has been eye opening.
At a meeting with Senator Rob Portman and Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, the Chief of Police and others, it was made clear that this entire problem starts in the doctor’s office when patients are seen for pain and prescribed these drugs. Addiction rapidly ensues.
The issue of opioid overuse and addiction affects everyone in the community.
Even if you don’t have a family member, neighbor or co-worker caught in this mess (you may not even realize it), it is raising health care costs, increasing crime in even “great” neighborhoods and increasing car accidents.
So what can we do?
Well, start with ourselves first: when a symptom occurs, look for the cause and seek correction not suppression.
Help friends and family to do the same.
